Lamp Testing

At our facility in San Diego, California, we test for many issues that may arise from UHP, P-VIP, fluorescent, and LED lamps.

  • All product must pass an initial visual inspection
  • UHP and P-VIP lamps are tested for ignition (arcing) then duration (time).
  • Light output is measured using an advanced 40,000 lux meter, then lumens are calculated based on the distance and output created from the light. The lux meter is calibrated using absolute darkness, then tested for a known brightness.

PCB Testing

Printed circuit boards are tested using a multimeter and other industry tools to check of defects.

  • All products must pass an initial visual inspection
  • ICs are checked
  • Voltage and fuses are checked
  • In other circumstances, components such as the EPROM may also be checked using industry standard memory readers.
  • In extreme circumstances, components may be tested in a working unit to check for defects.

Consumer Electronics and Consumable Parts Testing

Consumer electronics are tested to meet MI Technologies, Inc.'s refurbishing or remanufacturing standards. Each part is visual inspected and reconditioned as necessary.

RCA DLP OEM Lamp Replacement Guide

RCA DLP "HOW-TO" OEM Lamp Replacement Guide

What? Replace your defective RCA DLP Lamp
What do I need: A flat-head screwdriver, T-10 & T-15 TORX drivers, and a pair of plyers

Step 1:  Locate the lamp.  Here is the back of a typical RCA DLP TV...your TV may look slightly different.

The lamp is behind this rectangle door!

You're going to need your flat-head screwdriver to loosen this screw:

Loosen the screw and then use the two "clips" to open the compartment door.

What we're looking at it is the lamp enclosure.  There is one screw on each side that need to be loosened.

Now you can gently pull back the tray and viola, you have removed your lamp!

This is what it should look like pulled straight back...

Step2: Remove the lamp from the enclosure
This is a picture of the enclosure with your old lamp facing downward.  Visually inspect the area labeled
"Clip."  They are on the top and bottom of the enclosure.  Between them, there is about a 3" gap where
you need to push in with your thumb to be able to pull out the rear lamp cover.

The following picture looks at the other side of the lamp enclosure.  As you are pushing in on the lamp enclosure,
you want to release these:

Here is a fuzzy picture with that part of the enclosure disassembled and now it is held together by the wiring

Now we have access to unscrew the lamp connectors with your plyer and torx driver.  Once the back of the
enclosure is removed...

Now you have access to remove the three screws circled above...Here is a recap of your parts so far...

I've swapped out my old Lamp / Bulb with a new, original replacement lamp above...remember the washer!

When assembling the rear enclosure back on, remember to double check and make sure everything is in place.
The bottom has not been installed correctly in this picture.

Installation is in reverse order...here are some more photos

It took me about 15 minutes from tray removal to tray re-install...it might take an inexperienced user 15-20 mins...

IMPORTANT: The bulb should be handled with a clean cloth to avoid any dirt or oil.  Our hands are naturally oily...this is a no-no for these lamps.  It doesn't hurt to do a final wipe with a clean, non-abrasive, lent free cloth before reinstalling your lamp.

Samsung DLP OEM Lamp Replacement Guide

Samsung DLP "HOW-TO" OEM Lamp Replacement Guide

What? Replace your defective Samsung DLP Lamp
What do I need: A philips screw driver. I used my trusty DeWalt Driver...that's it!

Step 1: Remove the pull out handle on the lamp enclosure.  Just squeeze one end of the handle in and it will come loose.

Here is it removed:

Step 2: Remove the two screws holding the metal lamp enclosure. One screw on either side (one side is
circled in the photo below).

Now pull the metal enclosure straight up (or back in this case :)

Step 3: Remove the six screws show in the picture below:

Don't forget the nut right in the middle (blue arrow)...you should be able to unscrew this with your fingers:

Step 4: Pull out the lamp. Be careful not to loose the washer under the nut.  Here is the lamp enclosure
dis-assembled..that's was simple, right ?!?

Step 4: Now just swap out the lamp! Here is the original lamp...

Original lamp again with the spacers separated

The original lamp is on the left side...our new Samsung part is on the right.  Both made by Philips.

Here is another picture of the lamps side by side...you can't tell which one is new and which one is defective.
Be careful not to accidentally replace your old lamp with your old lamp!

Step 6: Assemble in reverse order.  First screw these two to hold the spacers in place...

Now screw in the rest.  Don't forget the most important one...put the washer on the bottom and the
nut on top...

The location of the lamp connectors, relative to the enclosure is not important...notice the first picture above
compared to the picture below.  The first picture has the outer connector on the left side of the enclosure
whereas now the connector is on the right side of the enclosure.

Now place the metal cover back on after tighening all the screws, tighten the two screws on the metal enclosure, pop in the pull out tray...and you're done! :)
